Tullow Oil Ghana on Tuesday presented a cheque for GH¢30,000 to the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, towards the first ever National Science Congress in Accra.
The congress on the theme: “Water, Sanitation and the Environment” would be attended by participants from the science community, industry, local government, and Accra Metropolitan Assembly.
Presenting the cheque, Dr Toni Aubynn, Head of Corporate Affairs, Tullow Oil Ghana, underscored the importance of science and technology in national development.
He said the congress was an initiative that management regarded was worth supporting since the oil industry utilised many human resources with scientific background.
“The presentation is to demonstrate Tullow’s commitment to giving back to the community where we operate,” he stated.
Professor Marian Ewurama Addy, Chairperson of the National Planning Committee, commended the management of Tullow Oil Ghana for the initiative.
She said it was an indication of the importance the company attached to the development of science.
Highlights of the congress include presentations from the fields of science and industry in Ghana as well as exhibition of science projects, and awards for excellence in science.
