  • Tullow-Logo2Tullow Ghana Limited (TGL), a major oil company operating in the Jubilee Oilfield, has held a day’s workshop on oil spillage management for some coastal communities in the Jomoro District.

Mr. Jonathan Field, an Oil Spillage Specialist with the TGL, said the event aimed at equipping the coastal communities to handle oil spillage to avoid extensive damage to their health as well as to aquatic resources.

He said since light crude oil is difficult to clean when mixed with filth, the communities must keep the beaches clean.

Mr Field explained that the workshop formed part of the company’s social responsibility programme to get the people involved in their activities.

He appealed to them to cooperate with officials who are collating data on coastal communities in the Region so that appropriate compensation is paid to them in the event of any oil spillage.

Nana Epilla Sam II, Chief of Edobo, said oil exploration in the Jubilee Oilfield had not impacted positively on their lives and appealed for more support to better their livelihood.

The participants were introduced to some oil spillage fighting equipment and their usage.

The workshop was attended by the chiefs and people of New Edobo, Beyin, Agyeza and other coastal communities.
