Tullow Oil to initiate contracts for new larger FPSO in September

  • British oil producer in Ghana Tullow Oil says contracts for its new larger Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel will be initiated in September 2011.

Tullow indicated in its 2010 Financial Results that it is focused on optimising the recovery of the light oil discovered at Enyenra and maximising both liquid and gas recovery from Tweneboa in Ghana, and therefore, it has included in its conceptual developments the use of a large FPSO vessel with liquid rates in the ranges of 75,000 to 125,000 barrels of oil per day.

The FPSO Kwame Nkrumah which is in use currently at the Jubilee fields has a maximum capacity of 120,000 barrels of oil per day.
In its half year results emailed to ghanabusinessnews.com today August 24, 2011, Tullow said development planning for Enyenra-Tweneboa has been progressing well with the completion of conceptual engineering.

“The Front End Engineering & Design (FEED) FPSO and subsea contracts for the combined Enyenra-Tweneboa development will be initiated in September,” the oil producer says. Adding that subject to the ongoing appraisal programme, submission of a Plan of Development and Sanction of the project is targeted for the first half of 2012.

“It is anticipated that first production will be within two and a half years of development sanction,” it says.

In March 2010, a spokesperson for Tullow Oil, Kate Lahane confirmed to ghanabusinessnews.com by email that Tullow is continuing to work on the development of its assets in Ghana and as mentioned in their results statement, this development would include the use of a large FPSO but no further information is currently available.
