  • The majority stakeholder in the Jubilee field, TULLOW OIL says it remains committed to meeting all environmental standards in its oil and gas drilling activities in the country.

With oil and gas production scheduled to commence in the last quarter of the year, concerns have been raised about the environmental impact assessment of the activities by the stakeholders.

Recent amongst these is the call by a lecturer at the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Science at the University of Cape Coast, Joseph Sefa-Debra that government should halt the acquisition of the FPSO until the impact of drilling activities on aquatic life is adequately assessed.

In response, the Communications Manager of Tullow Oil Ghana, Gayheart Mensah says TULLOW would deepen the requisite measures already instituted to ensure all the environmental standards in the oil and gas production are duly met.

According to him, “the development in the jubilee field is a process in itself, there are various things that has to be done and as far as health section on this project is concerned, we will ensure that everything that ought to be done is done and we will keep within the framework of whatever rules and regulations and policies governing the industry to ensure that we fall within the requirement of the land. “

In response to whether all the relevant environmental work has been done or would be done, he said “there are various phases of this process and as partners, all the phases have been considered in the scheme of work that is been implemented at the moment and we have everything in view.

We will work towards ensuring there is no infringement whether it has to do with environmental or other operational arrangements.”
