Enhancing the Role of the Media in Promoting Oil and Gas Sector Transparency and Accountability Project
2017 marks Ghana’s 10th year of commercial oil exploration and production, an enviable achievement in the Africa extractive market. A decade of crude production, the country has raked $3.4 billion dollars as total revenue from the sector. However, this achievement couldn’t have been any better without the enormous contribution of some civil society organizations, stakeholders and media in playing a watch dog role over the country’s revenue and resource.
However, there are countless questions surrounding the sector such as corruption, misapplication of petroleum revenues and many others. These and other issues require deeper analysis and investigation to unearth and bring to light some of the issues. It is against this backdrop that Penplusbytes with support from Ghana Oil and Gas for Inclusive Growth (GOGIG) is set to initiate a six months project dubbed ‘Enhancing the role of the media in promoting oil and gas sector transparency and accountability’ The rationale of the project is to ensure transparency and accountability in the oil and gas sector through effective public oversight on oil and gas resource management.
