  • Anadarko Petroleum Corp (APC.N) said on Monday that one of its exploration wells encountered high-quality oil off the coast of Ghana, the latest in a string of discoveries for the U.S. oil and gas firm in African waters.

The Teak-2 exploration well encountered about 90 net feet of high-quality oil, Anadarko said.

"We continue to work with our partners and the Republic of Ghana to advance our exploration and appraisal programs," Bob Daniels, a senior vice president, said.

The Teak-2 well was drilled to a total depth of 11,185 feet in water depths of about 2,900 feet, the company said.

Anadarko owns a 30.875 percent working interest in the West Cape Three Points licence block, which is operated by Kosmos Energy, also with a 30.875 percent working interest.

Other co-owners in the block include Britain’s Tullow Oil Plc (TLW.L), which holds 22.896-percent working interest.

In February Anadarko’s Teak-1 exploration well encountered a total of about 240 net feet of oil. The company also struck natural gas in waters off Mozambique
