  • Greetings! Another productive week has come to an end and it is our solemn duty to bring you an abridged compilation of the stories that made headlines this week.

    To begin with, the Managing Director of Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST), Mr. Alfred Obeng Boateng, has been appointed to receive an award by the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council for his contribution toward the development of the area. The event is slated for Saturday, April 7, under the distinguished auspices of the President of the Regional Council of Chiefs, Katakyie Barima Bumankama. Several dignitaries will grace the occasion with their presence including the second Lady, Samira Bawumia, ministers of states and others. Read more here

    Also, the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) announced a reduction in electricity tariffs for various consumers of the product. A reduction of 17.5% for residential consumers, 30% reduction for non-commercial, 25% for Special Load Tariff consumers and 10% for mines. These tariff reduction is expected to take effect from March 15. This was stated in the statement by the executive Secretary, Mrs Mami Dufie Ofori. Read more from here

    The Daily Graphic reported that the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) made a donation of US$1m to the University of Cape Coast towards a four-year programme intended to advance the development of Ghana’s hydrocarbon deposits. A sum of US$250,000 will be granted to the school over the said period. The Chief Executive Officer, Dr. K.K. Sarpong and Professor Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, the Vice Chancelor of the University signed a Memorandum of Understanding to this effect.     In an interesting development on International Women’s Day, MODEC celebrated its first female offshore Production Technician, Portia Ama Anobea Oduro. Portia sat for an examination conducted by the Petroleum Commission in 2015 for an internship opportunity after which she wrote another in 2016 and was invited by the Commission to attend an interview with MODEC Ghana Limited.     The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Scholarship Scheme awarded GHs 249, 000 worth of scholarships to 27 students of the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility obligations. The Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Emmanuel Opuni-Frimpong, presented the cheques to the beneficiaries and admonished them to continue to pursue academic excellence or risk the scholarship withdrawn.
