West African Gas pipeline shuts down station

  • SOURCE: | qwesa2big
  • The West African Gas Pipeline  has shut  down  its station following  a  breach  developed  on its lines  located  on the sea bed  of the Togolese  maritime  zone.

The breach was detected after  the company  had discovered a low  pressure in its pipeline.

Briefing  the media  on this new  developments  in Takoradi  on Friday , the General Manager  of Corporate  Affairs, Mrs. Harriet  Wereko-Brobby, said  the incident  occurred at about  3:oo am  on Tuesday , August 28.

She said  the Togolese navy engaged an unidentified vessel  in a firing , which  had then  docked  within  the pipeline  protection  zone.

The vessel , she said , in an attempt  to escape  the firing  moved  without  pulling up its  anchor, as a result, the anchor  rammed into  the pipeline , causing  a breach  in the process.

She said a team of engineers are yet to be deployed to the scene  to determine  the extent  of damage.

She hoped  that lines  would  be repaired  as soon as possible  to enable  the company  resume  full  scale operation.

Meanwhile , the Ghana Electricity  Company  (ECG) had been  compelled  by the incident  to introduce  rationing  of power  supply  across  the country due to  inadequate  gas  to run the thermal  plants  for electricity generation.
