Zoil Services Limited, an oil and gas waste management and spill response company, officially opened its ultra-modern Anaerobic Thermal Desorption Plant (ATDU) in Nyankrom in the Shama District of the Western Region last week.

Zoil, with its world-class waste treatment plant, will help minimise or eliminate the negative impacts of industrial activities on society.

Zoil Plant, located in the oil region, close to the operations of many oil & gas companies, is capable of treating waste materials such as crude oil, tanker bottoms and marine waste, drill cuttings, oily sludge, filter cakes, engine and hydraulic oil, galley grease and soil contaminated with certain categories of hydrocarbons, among others. It specialises in oil and hazardous waste treatment, oil spill recovery services, tank-cleaning and general oil and gas waste management advisory services.

Dr. Kenneth Asamoah-Boateng, the Managing Director of Zoil Services Limited, explained: “Zoil acquired a state-of-the-art Anaerobic Thermal Desorption Unit (ADTU), capable of treating up to 8 tonnes of drilling waste per hour. It is the first and the largest of its kind in Ghana. The plant will also be capable of processing waste plastics into valuable fuel products through pyrolysis. This will help to reduce the amount of plastic-contamination in our environment.”

He said: “The Petroleum Commission, Environmental Protection Agency and other regulatory bodies have inspected our facilities and conducted thorough audits of our equipment and staff. They granted us official permits to commence business after we satisfied the required operational standards. As a result of our certification, proximity, deployment of state-of-the-art technology and qualified staff, many oil companies in the country are eager to start doing business with us”.

The Queen Mother of Nyankrom and acting Paramount Queen of the Shama Traditional Area, Nana Akosua Gyamfiaba II, in her speech thanked Zoil services Limited for choosing Nyankrom as its base. She assured the company of support and cooperation from the community and its people. She also thanked the company for its contributions to the community and for employing its youth.

With the launch of Ghana’s largest oil and gas company, and as the only company to have deployed the Anaerobic Thermal Desorption technology, Zoil has officially opened its doors for business in the oil and gas sector of Ghana and beyond.
